Plant Controller

Oversee the financial control of the refinery business — delivering accurate financial results and analysis, ensuring compliance, and supporting strategic decision-making.

Position Purpose

The Plant Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial control of the refinery business. They support the regional management team by delivering accurate and reliable financial results and analysis, which aids in informed decision-making and strategic planning. Additionally, the Plant Controller ensures compliance with company policies and statutory financial regulations.

Position Accountabilities

  • Analyzing plant performance — downtime, efficiency and cost-saving opportunities — and monitoring raw materials, in-process inventory and finished goods; optimizing inventory levels and managing mass balance for raw materials to balance cost and production needs.
  • Preparing and presenting monthly, quarterly and annual financial and operational reports, including KPIs and variance analysis; implementing cost-control measures, identifying profitability opportunities, and ensuring timely reporting of unfavourable variances; collaborating with plant management to provide financial insight for operational and strategic decisions.
  • Implementing and maintaining internal controls to ensure compliance with corporate financial policies and regulations; monitoring plant controls to safeguard assets, ensure reporting integrity and identify risks; leading internal and external audits.
  • Managing CapEx budgets, tracking ongoing projects, and evaluating the return on investment (ROI) for plant initiatives.
  • Integrating and training new staff, and fostering the professional development of the existing team; providing proactive guidance on complex financial and operational matters to departmental leaders.
  • Collaborating across the organization to achieve plant and corporate goals — working closely with the Plant Manager, accountants and senior management to analyze results, drive improvements, manage projects and develop complex analyses.
  • Enhancing financial systems, tools and reporting processes to improve efficiency and better support plant operations.

Qualifications / Experience / Skills

  • Bachelor's / Master's in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
  • Knowledge of cement, concrete and related construction-materials industries
  • 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of Bitumen, VDU & Asphalt manufacturing processes
  • Solid technical accounting and auditing skills (financial and operational)
  • Experience in stock management of raw materials and spare parts
  • Strong customer-service skills with a focus on internal and external satisfaction
  • Ability to work independently, communicate effectively and collaborate in a team
